And the drama continues.......

No, not Oliver this time.  Oliver has actually been doing very well.  Too good, really.  By that I mean he feels great and doesn't understand why I won't allow him to do the things he wants to do - run, wrestle with his brother, go up and down stairs, play roughly with his toys.  You know, all the fun things in life.  Holding him back is a job in and of itself.

So much for taking 3 months for him to return to "normal".....

Nope, the drama this week has been with J.  Now I am caring for a dog and a husband.  And we've
determined the Universe does not want us to go to the beach this year.  Let me explain.

We had made reservations at a new hotel in Narragansett, Rhode Island, set up the pet sitter and had everything set up to go on vacation the end of July.  And then Oliver had issues.  The week he ended up having surgery was the week we were supposed to go away.  The hotel wouldn't refund our deposit but would allow us to move the reservation.  Once.  We moved it to this past week.  All was going well until Tuesday.  I was at work finishing up some things, ready to have the rest of the week off and go to the beach.  Then came a text from my husband.  He was in pain from kidney stones.

To the ER we went where it was confirmed.  J looked at me and firmly said "we ARE going to the beach!"  I knew better, not to mention that he was currently on morphine to control the pain, and opted to say nothing.  We didn't go to the beach.  No sir, instead we went to the Urologist who performed Lithotripsy on Friday to break them up.

All is well and we are back on track.  No beach this year.

Needless to say, our life is a bit hectic right now.

Fall is in the air!  I am so excited about that.  We've continued to have warm day temps but the evening temps are dropping and I'm loving it.  There's nothing like waking with a bit of a chill and sitting with a hot cup of coffee to enjoy the morning.  Saturday morning I opened all the windows then covered the dogs up with their blankets so we could fully enjoy the upper 50's/low 60's morning.  Perfection!  It's supposed to get warm again toward the end of the week but I have faith that Fall is around the corner.

The Coop Girls have let me know they will help me clean up the garden beds this week.  I would like to get garlic planted and maybe a few greens next weekend.  I think we'll also plant some more carrots so they overwinter and will be ready in spring.  For some reason Hattie has had her naughty pants on.  She spent Friday angry at the smaller Coop Girls.  She chased and kicked and pulled feathers and just downright tormented them.  I'm not sure what got into her.  J said it was because we got her up too early.  We had to be at the surgery center at 6:15 a.m. so we opened the Coop at 5:30.  Hattie and Betty were the only two who got out of bed when the Coop opened.  Hattie clearly needed to stay in bed.......

It rained very well last night and into today.  Because of that, the sunflowers are quickly falling over so the Coop Girls are getting their fair share of the beautiful yellow blooms.

We are still getting tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, potatoes, eggplant, carrots and herbs from the garden as well as the last of the corn.  All so delicious.  We also received some oyster mushrooms today as a barter with a fellow vendor.  I can't wait to use them in risotto later this week.  As much as I love the arrival of Fall, I do miss the fresh veggies growing right outside the back door.

I had a bit of time Friday and Saturday to get a few things done around the house in between making and packaging products.  I made a big batch of beans in the slow-cooker this weekend to put up in the freezer {recipe coming this week} and am making yogurt tonight {recipe coming next week}.  I also whipped up a new batch of Dandelion Salve.  We use it for so many things - it really is a great all-purpose salve.  Recipe/instructions coming this week!

On the menu this week:  Slow-Cooker Pub Inspired Short Ribs with Risotto and Green Beans; Grilled Chicken Breast with Garlic-Butter Pasta and Corn-on-the-Cob; Beef Teriyaki with Rice and Veggie Stir-Fry; Grilled BBQ Chicken Quarters with Mushroom Risotto and Salad; Grilled Soy-Maple Glazed Salmon with Herb Potato Wedges and Corn & Tomato Salad.
