Weekend

February 20, 2012

The weekend isn't over for us, as I have today off as well.  I'll be busy running errands, cleaning the house and cooking/baking.  It snowed on Saturday, but literally just long enough to take this photo.  Within the half hour it had stopped.  As you can see from the very little snow we have accumulated, it has been an extremely mild winter.  So strange.

During this past week Jay had come in from the coop with a precious and tiny little blue egg.  I photographed it next to a large egg.  Isn't it something?  Our Araucana's do lay smaller eggs, but not typically this small.

Speaking of chickens and eggs, Meg is sick.  We thought she was egg-bound, so out came the mineral oil and as I went in to retrieve it I realized I could feel it down near her leg.  I've reached out to a couple of fellow bloggers to help me with this one.  I'm also hoping to speak with the couple who own our local feed store, as they've had chickens for years.  I do fear for the worst for her.

On a brighter side, as you probably know, Jackson believes he is a French Bulldog.  Everything Oliver and Emerson do, he does as well.  If they line up for treats, he lines up for treats.  If they lay down to sleep, he lays down to sleep.  If they get ready to go outside, he lines up as though he's going outside.

Both Oliver and Emerson enjoy laying in our bed with their bodies under the covers and their heads on the pillow.  Saturday morning I awoke to Oliver on my right side, body under the covers, head on Jay's pillow.  I could feel something against my back so I rolled over and Jackson was on my left side, body under the covers, head on my pillow.  I laughed out loud.  The covers were somehow pulled perfectly up to his chin.  He gave me the "good morning" look.  It was absolutely hysterical.  I wanted to take a picture, but when I got up, Oliver and Emerson got up which meant Jack had to get up because, well, he's one of them.

Hoping you all had a wonderful weekend!

Slow-Cooker "Baked" Potatoes

February 22, 2018

My husband is not a baked potato fan. He's made that very clear. Several times..... He is, however, a huge fan of twice baked potatoes. So I've found the perfect compromise since I do appreciate a good baked potato. I scoop out his potato and mix it with a little butter, milk, and cheese (as I would for a twice baked potato), but I don't bake it a second time. Instead, I spoon it back into the...

Freezer Cooking 101: A Beginner's Guide Part 1 of 3

February 21, 2018

This is the first of a 3-part series on Freezer Cooking.  I got hooked on freezer cooking a couple of years ago.  While we don't eat the majority of our meals as freezer meals, I love counting on them at least once or twice a week as well as having a meal or two extra that's handy if I've forgotten to take something out.

Finding ways to simplify mealtime has become incredibly popular, and for...

$100.00/Week Real Food Meal Plan - Week 8

February 19, 2018

If you’re just tuning in, this is an ongoing series in which I share our weekly meal plan as I (attempt) to convert us to a Whole/Real Food lifestyle.  Our grocery budget is $100.00/week for 2 adults.  Often I make 2 different meals because I am primarily plant-based and my husband is not.  Most of what we eat is made from scratch and any boxed, canned and/or frozen products follow the Real Food...
