Gardening Area - Befores and After

August 12, 2011

I'm not sure why, but I wasn't very good at taking photos of the house and property prior to working on it.  But I wanted to share what I have of before, during and after photos of the garden area.

Photos 1 & 2:  The garden area was not raised when we moved in.  We found out quickly that the soil was not good and extremely rocky.  Rather than taking the time to amend the existing soil, we chose to add raised beds and bring in some compost and soil.  The initial expense turned out to be worth it as we were able to garden immediately.  You can also see the old chicken coop in photo #2.  That was torn down {too run down to re-use} and the garden shed was built in the vicinity.

Photo 3:  The start of the raised beds.

Photo 4:  This years garden and garden shed.

So the collections are...

We certainly had no trouble finding people we could gift our beautiful eggs to, but we also wanted to come up with delicious ways to use some of the excess ourselves. I've always loved deviled eggs but when I came across this recipe and...

Healthy Eating

Eating can be complicated. What is "real" food? Should I eat carbs? Should I go vegan? (more on plant-based eating in an upcoming post) When I first decided to switch to eating a diet consisting only of whole food I thought that it wouldn’t be hard because we rarely eat processed food. Or so I thought. When you really think about what you buy, it’s amazing to see that, sure enough, processed food...
