Freeze & Bake Cookies

It's the time of the year when time is limited and company is abound.  I've found it super helpful to have a few delicious cookie dough's on hand, in the freezer, ready to be popped in the oven the moment I find out someone is coming over to visit.  These are also great for evenings where you just need a little something sweet - bake as few or as many as you would like!

With a few easy steps and an hour or so on a weekend afternoon, you'll be set for unexpected company or a sweet craving only a homemade cookie will cure.

  • Mix up the cookie dough {Tollhouse chocolate chip, oatmeal, and oatmeal pudding cookie recipes all work very well}
  • With a cookie scoop {or small ice cream scoop} put cookie dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment or waxed paper.  Fill it full, just make sure they don't touch.
  • Put the baking sheet in the freezer for 2 - 3 hours, until frozen solid.
  • Take the cookie balls off the sheet and put into freezer safe containers or freezer safe bags.
  • Label with the type of cookie, what temperature they should be baked at, and for how many minutes.  **The rule of thumb is to decrease the oven temperature by 25 - 50 degrees {I find 300 degrees Fahrenheit works for most cookies} from the original recipe and double the baking time.
  • The cookie dough balls are good for 30 - 45 days.  
  • After they've been frozen and then baked, they only stay fresh for about 2 days.  It works out great though because you can bake them as needed!

  • Why not give these away as gifts?  This way, after the Holidays are over, friends and family are able to enjoy a bit of homemade cooking without the effort of mixing it up.  Just bag it in a freezer safe bag {or container}, put it in a cute gift bag, and include instructions.  {and keep it frozen!}
