Happy Monday!

So I did a great job of shopping from the pantry, garden and freezer for this week which resulted in very few dollars being spent on groceries.  We also didn't stock up on anything this week because those items that were on sale we still have plenty of.



Here's what we spent:

Commissary: $14.82
  • Pepperoni, Onions, Juice, Rolls, and Rolled Oats.

Farmer's Market: $18.50
  • Milk & Cream - $11.50
  • Apple Cider & Apples - $7.00

Hannaford: $4.50
  • Soda
Grand Total =  $37.82

We did order out Saturday night because we were busy making products, so last week's total goes from $54.47 to $78.73.

About this week's menu:
I was able to plan this week's menu around what we currently have in our home.  However, I thought it would be interesting to itemize everything out just to see what it would cost if I had to buy everything.  With this week's sale prices and regular prices factored in, the total for the week in our area would have been: $78.39

This total assumes I have eggs, rice, flour, peanut butter, beans, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, Worcestershire, and sage on hand, which I usually do.

I would have had to buy: 
  • tortilla shells - $1.50
  • milk - $3.49/gallon
  • whole chicken - $1.29/lb
  • apple cider - $2.99
  • potatoes - $4.20
  • apples - $4.00
  • carrots - .99cents
  • celery - $1.19
  • pork chops - $2.99/lb
  • butternut squash - .99cents/lb
  • ground beef - $2.99/lb
  • beef stock - $1.50/each
  • corn {frozen} - .99cents
  • chicken stock - $1.50/each
  • pepperoni - $1.59
  • chicken wings - $6.83
  • wing sauce - $2.62
  • spinach - $2.49
  • country-style pork ribs - $1.79/lb
  • kielbasa - $3.49
  • onions - .88cents/lb
  • cheese - $2.49
  • salsa - $1.89
  • frozen fruit - $2.49
Not too bad for a full week's worth of meals!  With a little planning, you really can control the cost of your weekly grocery spending.  It just takes time - time to look at the sales flyers and look at what you currently have on hand.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Quick Bread

November 07, 2017


It's pumpkin season and this may be a perfect way to put it to good use.  This bread is light on pumpkin flavor but super moist and extremely delicious.  You can also freeze pumpkin puree measured into 1 c. containers to make this throughout the winter.  


I have not yet attempted a vegan version of this.  If I get brave I'll let you know......  Be careful not to over bake it.

Fall Is Almost Over?

Is it possible that fall is almost over? Temp's here are in the upper 60's and low 70's so you'd never know that it's the end of October. This just doesn't usually happen! Even the leaf peepers were likely disappointed this year........it was so warm that the leaves just kind of crumbled off of the trees.
